A Perfect Mealtime

Woke up at 4, out the door by 4:30, too early for the local donut shop to be open. Road up with good energy to Poughkeepsie, total day's mileage about 94 -- a test to make sure I'm road-worthy for next week's first century of the season, to Montauk.

Consciously tried to eat every 3 hours or so, even if not hungry, definitely part of what kept me energized until the last 5 miles, when I ran out of water (I was constantly drinking out of an 80oz Camelback, refilled partially at various stops) and I lost focus and got a little lost, he he. Still made the 2:40pm train like planned, which was satisfying.

BREAKFAST: 4:15am, good yogurt with honey & peanuts, iced green tea, .75 bowl, hunger 4/5

BIKE SNACK: 7:30am, whole wheat bagel with cream cheese & veg, 20oz gatorade, 1 bowl, hunger 4/5

BIKE SNACK: 10am, chocolate chip cookies, .25 bowl, hunger 4/5

BIKE SNACK: 10:30am, cheese puffs, 20oz gatorade, .25 bowl, hunger 4/5

BIKE SNACK: 11:30am, falafel on baguette with ruburb salsa, 1 bowl, hunger 4/5
Stopped in Boscobel, right outside of Cold Spring, a a cute little Hudson Valley farmer's market. Kinda weird, because it seemed like 99% of the attendants arrived by car. No sidewalks, lots of cars, I was the only bike, even. Mostly produce and candles and meats n' stuff, but one local fancy resto was doing some sort of outreach with a couple of high-falutin' sandwiches. This one had nicely spiced flat falafel patties on a crusty, chewy baguette with fresh mayo, a chunky bittersweet rhubarb salsa and dark micro greens -- a pretty ballsy spin on a falafel sandwich with a lot of soul. Other than the cars, eating this sandwich with water from my back on a wooden bench on a sunny lawn overlooking the Hudson was a pretty perfect meal.

BIKE SNACK: 2:45pm, black & white cookie, .25 bowl, hunger 4/5

DINNER: 5:30pm, chicken burrito with whole wheat tortilla, chips & guac, water, 1.75 bowl, hunger 4/5

EVENING SNACK: 9:30pm, brown rice crispies with organic dead milk, .5 bowl, hunger 4/5

EVENING SNACK: 10:15pm, 8oz Sprite

Muthashutyomouf!

It's Friday, cookin', taking Edie out on her pushbike, meeting up for a movie with the HVS. A good day.

TODAY'S COOKING
Cheesecakes: Made 1 big and one small hardcore cheesecake, one for Mother's Day gathering with B's side of the family, one small one for either give away or personal (ab)use. Was going to make a series of mini's for next weekend's bridal shower I'm helping host, but Edie destroyed all the mini cupcake liners, so that'll have to wait.

Went free style on my c-school recipe. Pack of graham crackers, stick of melted butter, heavy pinch of salt, food processed to gritty mush (skipped adding sugar as I like a more savory crust to the very sweet cake, makes both pop.) Pressed into the two different sized collared pans, turned out pleasingly thin, in the oven for 10 at 300 until slightly browned and un-wet looking.

While that was happening, in the stand mixer went 2.5 lbs of cream cheese, 1 3/4 lb sugar, 5 whole eggs, 5 egg yolks, vanilla extract, zest of a lemon and an orange, 1/8 cup of flour, 1/4 cup of sour cream, mixed it hardcore until it was mostly smooth. Poured into the pans, put in a 475 degree oven for 10 minutes with a pan of water at the bottom.

Turned down to 200 and baked for 2 hours. Turned it off and they sat for another hour. Into the fridge for 24 hours.  And that, my friends, is how you make CHEESE-muthashutyomouf-CAKES!

AM SNACK: 8am, iced green tea

BREAKFAST: 9:30am, smoothie, .75 bowl, hunger 4/5

PM SNACK: 12:30pm, momma salad, .75 bowl, hunger 4/5

LUNCH: 2:30pm, 2 slices streetza, 1 bowl, hunger 4/5

PM SNACK: 5pm, 7oz sprite

SNICKLE DINNER: 6:45pm, falafel over rice, a bite of popcorn, water, 1.25 bowl, hunger 4/5
Our schedule was interrupted, so I got a plate of food from a vendor outside the theater. It was neither particularly good or vegan, but it's the company that makes a snickle meal.

My thursday's are bizzy

Busy day. Delivered knishes, ran a bebe to and from a doctor's apt (Mil's 6 month -- he's good!), prepped class, assembled laundry, taught class, food shopping, laundry doin', donut-scarfin', hard time getting asleep. -phew-.

Pint of Cider

Took it easy in the morning with Milli Mil, taught a breakfast class in the afternoon, had a drink in Williamsburg after, got home to help put the minipeople to sleep. A good day.

AM SNACK: 8:45am, iced green tea

BREAKFAST: 10am, organic chex with organic dead milk, banana, .75 bowl, hunger 4/5

LUNCH: 12:15pm, 2 hotdogs with mustard, homemade potato knish, momma salad, pickle, 1.25 bowl, hunger 4/5

SCHOOL DINNER: 6pm, challah french toast, buttermilk pancake, freshly ground breakfast sausage patty, slice of bacon, home fries, water, sprite, 1 bowl, hunger 4/5
There was a LOT of clarified butter used in this class, so it was a heavy "1 bowl", he he. We made granola and granola bars, too, but mostly people just took that home.

EVENING SNORT: 8pm, pint of cider
Out with MAP and her friends, helping cheer her up from the issues that a young single woman in Williamsburg tend to face nowadays. It was enough to get me strongly buzzed, oddly enough -- I guess my middle-aged tolerance in on the low-down. Still, no hang over, so that's good, I guess.

EVENING SNACK: 10pm, multigrain tortilla chips & bad salsa, .5 bowl, hunger 4/5

Over-eating

Took Milli to a doc appt at noon, met up with B there and we had lunch, though I mindlessly stopped by Golden Krust for a couple of patties before the appt, therefore over-eating. With leftovers for dinner, definitely not a typical eating day.

AM SNACK: 8:30am, iced green tea

BREAKFAST: 9:15am, good yogurt with honey, vanilla and almonds, .5 bowl, hunger 4/5

AM SNACK: 11am, homemade granola bar, .25 bowl, hunger 4/5

LUNCH pt 1: 11:45am, spinach patty, jerk chicken patty, 1 bowl, hunger 4/5

LUNCH pt 2: 1:15pm, baby shrimp in lobster sauce over fried rice, sauteed string beans, 1 bowl, hunger 3/5
We ate at Sammy's, and the portions were about twice the size of what they should have been.

DINNER: 7:15pm, baby shrimp in lobster sauce over fried rice, sauteed string beans, momma salad, 1 bowl, hunger 4/5

EVENING SNACK: 9pm, chocolate chips & peanuts, .25 bowl, hunger 4/5

EVENING SNACK: 10pm, small bag of pretzels, .25 bowl, hunger 4/5

People doing poorly

Betsy wasn't feeling well and stayed home. Got Edie to school, did some chores, lesson plans etc then lifted weights -- not the strongest set, due to yesterday's ride, but was able to sweat and grunt enough to make it worth the 45 minutes.

Picked up Edie and met up with MAP, who was having a bad day and needed a friend. We hung for a few hours, then got home to help out a still poorly-doing B and momma-in-law. Looking at my eating day, I thought I ate poorly, but other than a slight excess of sweets and maybe 1 too many meatballs, it wasn't that bad. If I could replace my sweets-addiction with fruit-addiction and maybe lower the meat-count, that would be pretty cool.

AM SNACK: 7:30am, iced green tea

BREAKFAST: 9:30am, hardcore oatmeal, 1 bowl, hunger 4/5
Left over from last week. Too salty.

LUNCH: 12:15pm, sardine & avocado on whole wheat toast, momma salad, pickle, 4oz of chocolate chip cookies, 1.25 bowl, hunger 4/5
Went out this morning to get some chores done, picked up a little cookies for B, but I ended up scarfing them with lunch. Comfort & cookies, there's nothing quite like it.

PM SNACK: 5:15pm, wholegrain tortilla chips with crappy jarred salsa, .25 bowl, hunger 4/5

DINNER: 7:30pm, whole wheat spaghetti with homemade sauce and 3 school made meatballs, a little ice cream, 1.25 bowl, hunger 4/5
Again measured 4oz dry pasta, starting to get used to this amount. Though double the FDA recommendation, it feels right. Should I try to limit myself to 2oz? Or is 2oz a side dish?

Riding

Woke up at 5:30, got to the meeting point at 6:45am, road the 5-boro bike ride pretty efficiently, got home to find my family finished eating, but a bunch of left over french fries met me. Cleaned myself off, and spent the afternoon with Edles in the park. On the walk home, found myself seriously hungry, picked up a pound of rugelah at the local kosher bakery.

Funny, road 40+ miles with barely eating anything, and was OK. Not normal operating procedure. I was very hungry afterwards, so there was no calorie-savings. Gotta be more on top of that. Gotta cook more, been ordering in too much lately.

AM SNACK: 6am, iced green tea

BIKE BREAKFAST: 7:15am, banana, chocolate muffin, .25 bowl, hunger 4/5

BIKE SNACK: 10:15 am, bag of pretzels, .25 bowl, hunger 4/5
